The EPI ISO 50001 Lead Auditor certification will prove the competence of the auditors, and achieve the following objectives:

  • Address the lack of skilled and trained personnel available to conduct ISO 50001 certification audits.
  • Reduce the burden on Certification Bodies to prove the competence of their auditors by incorporating the ISO standard requirements for both ISO 50003 and 17021-1.
  • Ensure that ISO 50001 is being implemented consistently nationally and internationally, so that governments can use the standard as a key tool to measure progress towards energy and climate goals.
  • Demonstrate the value of energy management systems (EnMS) business practices to industrial, commercial, and public sector organizations to impact international acceptance of ISO 50001 and other important energy related standards.
  • Enable Personnel Certification Bodies (PCBs) to offer a turnkey certification program and attain ISO / IEC 17024 accreditation by maintaining these Certification Products under strict control of the EPI.

This credential ensures the qualified candidate is competent in the following ISO 50003 technical areas: buildings, building complexes, and industry – light to medium. Within the context of the audit plan, the ISO 50001 Lead Auditor will be able to:

  • Plan, lead and manage an ISO 50001 audit team effectively to ensure the audit objectives are met;
  • Conduct the ISO 50001 audit in conformance with ISO 50003 requirements;
  • Assess conformance to ISO 50001- Energy management systems standard, which includes confirming continual improvement of energy performance and any additional organizational requirements;
  • Document and report audit findings based upon objective evidence;
  • Effectively manage the relationship with the client and the auditee; and
  • Communicate, justify, and take responsibility for the audit results both verbally and in a written report to the client.

ISO 50001 Standard

Energy use is the single largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and the ISO 50001 standard has the potential to significantly reduce energy use across the industrial and commercial building sectors. The ISO 50001 energy management systems (EnMS) standard has a dual focus on the use of a robust EnMS and sustained, data-driven improvements in energy performance. This dual focus requires skills in both business management systems and the technical aspects of energy performance—a skill set that can be hard to find in today’s marketplace.

Benefits of being EPI Certified

EPI provides turnkey certification programs with full set of materials that any country can adapt into workforce development programs.

Certified individuals possess cutting-edge knowledge and skills in both management systems and energy performance.
