The EPI ISO 50001 Lead Auditor certification will prove the competence of the auditors, and achieve the following objectives:

  • Address the lack of skilled and trained personnel available to conduct ISO 50001 certification audits.
  • Reduce the burden on Certification Bodies to prove the competence of their auditors by incorporating the ISO standard requirements for both ISO 50003 and 17021-1.
  • Ensure that ISO 50001 is being implemented consistently nationally and internationally, so that governments can use the standard as a key tool to measure progress towards energy and climate goals.
  • Demonstrate the value of energy management systems (EnMS) business practices to industrial, commercial, and public sector organizations to impact international acceptance of ISO 50001 and other important energy related standards.
  • Enable Personnel Certification Bodies (PCBs) to offer a turnkey certification program and attain ISO / IEC 17024 accreditation by maintaining these Certification Products under strict control of the EPI.
